This spring, the Artist’s Open Studio in Norwalk had their spring gallery called “Colors of Spring.” It is always a wonderful combination of student work and professionals, side by side.

I contributed my piece called “the road was long and often narrow” that was inspired by an older photo of mine that had “aged out of competition.” I had lamented it’s age and thrown it on the floor where my son (around 8 months old at the time) crunched it up. It gave me the idea to rip it into pieces in rage, and then incorporate it into a new piece that ended up speaking to my experience going through the pandemic as a new mom and battling a newly forged road as a professional artist.

Unfortunately, this three dimensional piece does not lend itself well to photos, so I will post some smaller closeups to give you an idea. The words along the gold paper feature a line from the poem: “my light shone whence I came and left gold flecks in my name…”

If you have a chance to check out AOS in the future, I highly recommend it. They always have art on display and for sale and it benefits the classes that they put on for adults with and without developmental disabilities.
