Hello All!
Broadway’s Blockparty has been postponed until next Friday!
The plant sale on Saturday is still happening and will just move inside if it rains.
Actually, I already changed my mind because Math Shoes are actually the best shoes, but it’s a catchy title, and I wonder how many people who saw that were like ‘Waaaaaaiiiiiiiiiit a minute! She wouldn’t think that!’ #MatheleteForEva, don’t worry.
These were a fun pair to make. One of my challenges as an artist is the “less is more” concept of leaving blank space or making things a little bigger than I might think to. Very few people will be taking a microscope to these shoes to read the smaller print I painstakingly etch on. The strangest things can be the most mind blowing. So here we are. Tell me what you think!
Love to all,
Julie
Such a great year for commissions!
I had multiple pieces in galleries all over NE Ohio, and so many -Ness by Julie Originals were made!! (Click here to see commissions) I even got an honorable mention at the Firelands Area Art League Gallery in Norwalk!!
This year was a learning curve on many fronts. First, trying to figure out how to navigate completing commissions outside of the home while navigating the limited options for pandemic childcare, was tough. Second, the imposter syndrome was REAL this year as the things I was asked to do ramped up! I’m excited, but, whew, I also feel like I’m drowning in insufficient talent. Finally, we bought a house! Woot! With that comes figuring out new art spaces and making them appropriately cozy, creative, and functional.
Thank you to everyone who came and checked out one of my shows, or commissioned me to make an idea come true. You truly warm this artist’s heart.
Love to all,
Julie
A friend asked me to make shoes for her and her daughter when they go to the Twenty One Pilots concert at the end of the month. Their newest album is “Scaled and Icy” and features a pretty sweet dragon on the front.

So I tried out drawing the dragon for #Inktober2021 and it came out pretty awesome, if I do say so myself.

(Unfortunately, I feel like my Inktober suffered because of such a hot start. Haha… )
Needless to say, the shoes came out likewise: Baller.

Hiya! Some of you have been asking for a bascule drawing in addition to the Lorain Lighthouse. Here are the first two! More to come, of course.
I think I will also think of a third Lorain “monument” to make them a set!

This one crept up on me!

I’ll be out back at Broadway Mary’s Flea Market until about 3:30 or so.

Come say hi and draw the lighthouse with me! It’ll take like 20 minutes and no experience or talent needed!!
